PC not been wipe for yaers?… then one of the easiest ways to speed up your PC is to simply reformat it. Of course, you want to backup your data, but it is the best way to get your computer back to peak performance.
1. Defragment your computer hard disk using free tools likeSmartDefrag.
4. Clean up hard drive disk space treesize ccleaner
5. Managing Startup Programs
A lot of the startup programs are useless and can be turned off. Use the MSCONFIG
Get everything you possibly can out of the Notification Area (by the time in the lower right hand of the screen) The best way to do this is in the applications options. If that fails, use Autoruns. Navigate to and open the Autoruns. folder, double-click autoruns.exe. Click on the Logon tab, Uncheck anything you do not want to start with Windows 7. The fewer things the better. If you don’t know what it is, leave it alone. Advanced users may want to go to the SERVICES tab and make modifications there.
Startup Delayer gives you the power to optimize your Startup Process by delaying applications from starting up as soon as you log into your computer.
By delaying the applications during start up, your computer becomes usable a lot faster. Startup Delayer will then start launching your delayed applications when your computer is more idle.
6. Configuring the Paging File Virtual memory Settings
To change the virtual memory settings, go to Start, Control Panel and click on System. Click on the Advanced tab and under the Performance box, click Settings.
On the Performance dialog, click the Advanced tab and then click Change under the Virtual Memory
By default, Windows uses the boot partition (the partition that contains your operating system files) and it is recommended to set the size to 1.5 times the amount of RAM that you have. Option: Move the “Page File” to be on a Separate Hard Disk Partition
7. Disable Visual Effects
If you don’t care about visual effects in Windows, you can turn them off by going to Performance Options.
8.Set Unused Services to Manual
Services use processes that run in the background using part of your computer’s resources. Check through your services with the help of the guide provided in this link, and stop and set to manual the services that affects features that you do not use or need to gain a tiny bit more performance.
WARNING: Disabling the wrong service could hurt performance, or even cripple Windows 7. If you do not truly know what you are doing, then it’s not recommended to do this.
9. Turn Off Unneeded Windows Features example:
uncheck Windows Gadget Platform
10. Speed Up Shut Down Time
This will allow you how to set the Wait to Kill time Windows 7 waits for programs to save data and close before shutting down. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
WaitToKillServiceTimeout and click on Modify
Type in a number between 2000-20000 (2-20 seconds) and click on OK. NOTE: The default time is 12000.
11. Uninstall the Bloatware Programs from Your Computer
Most computers that you buy, at a retail store, have a ton of software installed on it. Some of these can take up a lot of resources. Uninstall the programs that you do not want to use from Programs and Features.
